Old town detail with Mala Vrata Gate
Buzet is a small town in the northwestern corner of Croatian Istria. The traces of old, Roman times have been found on the hills surrounding the old town, like Fontana and Pintorija. Like the majority of Istria's small towns, Buzet's old town has been located on a hilltop, too - and luckily enough, it has been preserved in its 16-17th century outfit. Buzet is like a small Motovun - small when comparing the number of visitors it gets, small when considering the height of the hill of the old town. And small is River Mirna here, too - no wonder though, as this is the area of its spring.

It's exactly the Mirna valley that hides one of Istria's demanded produce - truffles. Buzet is known as the capital of truffles.
